Salvation is a track about preserving culture and remaining steadfast to the ways of our ancestors. Colonialism has bought with it many injustices into our world. This is the song that states that fact. King Kapisi is a firm believer in traditional values specific to maintaining what is left of our natural environment and utmost respect for family values.
Salvation was shot on location at Pacific Resort Rarotonga, Muri Lagoon, Ngatangiia and the Avarua Punanga Nui Cultural Markets in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

SOZ have independently produced all of their own original music in the garage of one of the bands members, Sam Eriwata, and released their debut self titled EP in Feb 2008.

Hikoikoi – Blood In The Sand

Hikoikoi are a conscious reggae group from Petone, Wellington. Their original sound is a marriage of skill and passion with an organic fusion of earthy beats and grooves, and lots of harmonic interplay. The groups jazz-flavoured beats create a cruisy twist of reggae, dub, and electronica that is difficult to stand still to. This track is called ‘Blood in the Sand’ is from their debut album. The album was self-recorded over three years at Sound Reserve Aotearoa, a recording studio the band has set up themselves, using analogue equipment and old school instruments. Much of it took place from an isolated boatshed in Petone’s Hikoikoi Reserve, on the shores of the Heretaunga River. The band takes their name from this magic spot, after many late nights song writing and recording whilst watching the water lap inches from their gear.

Like many legendary reggae groups this band is built around the classic harmony trio format. At the helm is Carl Perkins, a man with over thirty years experience writing and playing reggae music. Joining him up front are two of his sons, Te Omeka and Isaiah who not only provide harmonies but both of whom also write, take turns at singing lead and play keyboards as well. The rhythm section are certainly one of the tightest you are ever likely to hear, with Kaya Webster who is a one-drop prodigy, having played drums for the Twelve Tribes of Israel Band since he was of primary school age and Frances Harawira, a heavy-duty bassist also formerly of the T.T.I. Band and Token Village. Rounding out the sound is the exceptionally gifted guitarist Roy Venkataraman a seasoned veteran himself who toured and played with The Wailers band for a number of years and the soul infused horns of Chris Nielson on sax and trumpet.

April 2009 sees the debut album “Keep Rising” distributed through Shock in Australia & Pacific Hawaiian in Hawaii with more interest worldwide.
