Coming of the 2009 debut album Dog this is St James Infirmary. Formed with the aim of playing drinking music for drunks. Their style has been described as “funeral pop” and “carny prog” and generally runs in the vein of dark and grinding country music. And a note from the website reads; Von Klap are terribly interested in selling out, and are open to offers. Please get in touch if this interests you.
They bring… Backpacks full of road songs, battered acoustics and no name electrics, banjo and glockenspiel, mandolin, harmonica, foot stomps and old time singing, straight from the gut, the fist and the heart…
They play ‘cause they have too, not because they wanna see their faces in a magazine or in a video or on a chart, or to soak it up in a showcase. They’ll play because they care, about the songs about the show about the folks they meet and the hands they shake.
If asked in a genial fashion, the band would most likely describe their sound as a rather tone-filled mix of surf-rock and bluesy rock and roll, framed in a backdrop of fast country infused panoramas. They would almost certainly then proceed to tell you that they enjoy and would like to give praise to the likes of Link Wray, Dick Dale, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Tom Waits.
Shot on the East coast of the North Island on a very wild weekend!

Royal Falcon are an Auckland-based five piece band, making music akin to a murderous spree. Their raucous psychedelic country songwriting merges dark narrative and creeping dynamics with an explosive guitar assault to create something quite intense.
Sometimes they can be found taking their music to the street, busking for small change to gracious passersby. The point is not to get rich, rather the ever-industrious band reinvest their takings in beer to stimulate more songwriting sessions.
Together, White Swan Black Swan are Sonya Waters and Ben Howe formerly of Fang , Ricky McShane from The Chainsaw Masocist and Ben Furniss from Surrealistic. White Swan is the songs of Sonya Waters and Black Swan are the songs of Ben Howe.
White Swan Black Swan make their music in a brick house on the edge of a sleeping volcano. Their house is furnished with out-of-date Super 8 movie projectors, old amplifiers, 70′s lamps, faded paintings of imagined places, all keepsakes from a past era embellishing the musical landscape. Their brick bungalow is a rural green oasis – hidden away for the city that surrounds it.
White Swan Black Swan have released two EPs and a ‘double mini album’ – which came out in August 2008.

Christchurch’s scummiest, tuneful and most offensive country band… banjos! accordions! screaming!
