Bond Street Bridge is the creation of Auckland-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Sam Prebble. Sam has been playing music for as long as he can remember, and ‘probably before that as well,’ as he puts it. Bond Street Bridge is currently a solo project, but Sam has always played in bands, orchestras and choirs.

What do you get if you mix a pound of Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70, two cupfuls of The Meters, 250g of thinly sliced early James Brown and a level dessert spoon of psychedelic rock? -you get the heaving, convulsing powerhouse of soul music that is The Hot Grits.
As always, the aim remains simple: to bring great soul and afrobeat music to the people.

Headlights

In a genre often critiqued as shallow and flashy, Wellington based rapper Percieve stands out amongst his peers. Surviving a fatal head on collision in 2005, the rapper/producer produces a depth and drive you can almost touch. As 2much records only signee since the Footsouljahs, he has the backing of some of the most respected pioneers of NZ hiphop and his firm grounding in the foundations of the music are evident in the honesty of his songs.

Born in California, raised in Christchurch and reared in Canada, Reb has spent much of her life journeying from place to place only to surface in Auckland with an outstanding record. “I’m a traveller”. It’s what she has discovered through her travels that she reveals in her music – and it sounds so hallowed it’s as if she sold her soul for her song.

When asked what type of music she plays, Reb says she makes, “Soul music, music that’s real and heartfelt and pure and connects with people because it sounds good and feels great.”

Coddington has been quietly kicking around New Zealand’s music scene for some time now. She has been heard singing in the background of some well known tunes by New Zealand artists like Bic Runga, Anika Moa, SJD, Dimmer and more, and in the foreground of casually released pop gems by her former bands Handsome Geoffery and Duchess.

Ms Coddington has a unique talent for writing beautiful songs with a twist of reality, making “The Lake” – released June 08 – a delightfully engaging album.

Antagonist A.D formed in late 2004 but after trading members & gaining direction a new redux saw the light the following year. 2005 was a dark year for New Zealand hardcore with prominent bands breaking up, crucial venues being lost & key promoters bowing out. Antagonist A.D pushed on and quickly made a name for themselves as an extremely hardworking band and breathing new life into the local hardcore scene.
Not watered down or compromised in anyway Antagonist A.D delivers the frantic intensity of hardcore, while utilizing a heavier edge. Lyrically the band speaks of topics ranging from social & political commentary to the brutally honest self-retrospect and analysis.

Inciting a fusion of twisting surf guitar, crazy drums and rolling dirty bass playing with simple melodic vocal lines and a healthy dose of reverbed overdive, the music is always intresting and alive.
